WHAT STARTED OFF AS A HUMBLE FAMILY DREAM HAS EVOLVED INTO A PROUD JOURNEY OF DIVERSIFICATION AND GROWTH OVER 75 YEARS
For over 75 years, Agius Group, our family, has been inspired and focused on one shared vision ignited by our founders, Ġużeppi and Ġorġa Agius. A vision that continues to reap its fruit and breathe new energy across generations. With a business rooted in family values and guided by a strong commitment to integrity, quality, legacy and international diversification, we have evolved into a diversified group with experience across key industries and sectors including Hospitality, Development, Retail and Transport.
The Blue Clay Collection includes a diverse array of restaurants such as Da Marco, Terrazzo, Tonic Gastro Pub and Noble Cafè Bistro. Together with Ta’ Dirjanu Foodstore, our portfolio is uniquely positioned to provide a comprehensive range of products, services, and solutions that cater to the evolving needs of our clients. Our commitment to excellence, coupled with the dedication of our 700+ employees across all our business functions, ensure that we contribute positively to both the industries we operate in and the clients we serve.
Our legacy finds its origins in the early 1950s, when husband and wife Ġużeppi and Ġorġa Agius opened a warehouse in Gozo to distribute beverages on behalf of Farsons, Malta’s leading drinks distributor famous for Cisk and Kinnie.
The group acquired a parcel of land in Gozo, an instrumental move that allowed for further expansion of the distribution enterprise and is still in use today.
The new parcel of land was transformed into Dirjanu Bottle Shop, a customer-facing extension of the distribution warehouse.
The bottle shop evolved into Ta’ Dirjanu Foodstore in Victoria, Gozo, which has since become the local supermarket of choice for Gozitans seeking a sophisticated shopping experience.
The Group inaugurated its second retail outlet, Ta’ Dirjanu Marsalforn, marking a key step in expanding its retail footprint across Gozo. This milestone reinforced the brand’s growing reputation for quality and convenience in food retailing.
The retail network was further strengthened with the launch of the third outlet, Ta’ Dirjanu Għajnsielem, enabling the Group to better serve the eastern region of Gozo and expanding accessibility to its premium product offerings.
Agius Group officially entered the real estate and property development sector, leveraging its business acumen to diversify operations. This strategic pivot laid the groundwork for what would become one of the Group’s most dynamic and high-growth business pillars.
As part of a broader growth strategy, Ta’ Dirjanu Victoria was relocated to a significantly larger, modern supermarket complex, allowing the Group to scale its retail operations and introduce new service innovations to meet increasing consumer demand.
Through its construction and real estate ventures — namely Excel Investments Ltd. and PRA Construction Ltd. — the Group successfully completed over 50 residential and commercial developments across Malta and Gozo, affirming its leadership status in the national development landscape.
PRA Construction Ltd. played a key role in delivering the second phase of Mercury Towers, a prestigious high-rise project in St Julian’s, which was the last building to be designed by the late renowned architect Zaha Hadid. This achievement demonstrated the Group’s capability in managing high-profile, design-led developments.
Agius Group launched the Blue Clay Collection, expanding into the upscale hospitality sector with the opening of its flagship restaurant, Terrazzo Xlendi, nestled in the scenic coastal town of Xlendi Bay. Additionally, Agius Group entered the ride-hailing industry, introducing a competitive fleet and partnering with leading global mobility platforms to strengthen its transport service portfolio. In the same year, the Group signed a landmark partnership with MELIÁ Hotels International, establishing itself as the largest collaborative partner for the brand in Malta — a strategic alliance set to elevate the Group’s hospitality presence on the islands.
A €50 million bond was issued and listed on the Malta Stock Exchange by a subsidiary entity in which Agius Group holds a strategic equity stake. This financial instrument was devised to enhance the Group’s capital market visibility and support the expansion goals of its broader investment ecosystem.
We bring a distinctive blend of core values, unwavering dedication, and a profound commitment to fostering unity to our business pursuits. With a steadfast emphasis on upholding familial principles, our value proposition is founded upon three pillars that distinctly differentiate us.
